Eltham Palace, London Borough of Greenwich, Archaeological Evaluation

Excavations by the Oxford Archaeological Unit to the east
and south-east of the moated site of Eltham Palace
revealed a number of post-medieval features and one
possible prehistoric ditch. The possible prehistoric ditch,
which was identified in the two northernmost evaluation
trenches (trenches 9 & 77), may represent the remains of
a rectilinear boundary. Alternatively it may have formed
one side of an enclosure. If so its topographical position
suggests that the interior would have lain on the upper
northern side and will not be affected by the proposed
development. There is 'no evidence of associated
settlement activity
