Abstract

On the 20th of October 2015, Oxford Archaeology East undertook an evaluation on land off Barton Close, Witchford (TL 4958 7868) ahead of the construction of five new houses with associated infrastructure and gardens.
The trial trenching did not identify any archaeological remains. Topsoil across the site was minimal, measuring no more than 0.1m in thickness, and contained modern debris including plastic, brick and metal. Modern debris consisting of coils of iron, cooking pots, glass bottles and jars were also recovered from the subsoil and from a feature at the western end of Trench 2.
