Abstract
The Oxford Archaeological Unit were invited by HBMC to submit an archaeological tender for an archaeological project in the precinct of St Augustine's Abbey, Canterbury, Kent. The site was located to the south of the monastic church and adjacent to the historic boundary wall of the abbey to the north side of Longport. This work took the form of an archaeological watching brief carried out over a period of three months. Part of the medieval lay cemetery as well as a section of the abbey wall were uncovered. Virtually all other layers of features encountered were related to post-medieval landscaping and dumping or construction of the Kent and Canterbury Hospital.
