Land at Aston Road Chipping Campden Gloucestershire

Oxford Archaeology South (OAS) was commissioned by Gloucestershire County
Council (GCC) to undertake an archaeological evaluation of land at Aston Road,
Chipping Campden, Gloucestershire (centred on NGR SP 152 398) The work was
carried out to inform the planning authority in advance of submission of a planning
application.
The work was undertaken between 3rd and 7th February 2014. A total of 19
trenches were excavated across the site.
A single post-medieval NE-SW aligned ditch was present in the northern field. The
alignment was consistent with the furrows detected and probably represents an old
field boundary.
Plough furrows, the remnants of ridge and furrow agriculture, were recorded as
geophysical anomalies and remains across the site. The form of the features is
more typical of later post-medieval ploughing than medieval period agriculture. No
evidence of medieval or later settlement was recorded on the site.
