Abstract
Following on for a desk-based assessment incorporating air photo survey, an evaluation was undertaken in November 1997. Three main areas of likely archaeological interest were highlighted resulting in the excavation of two open areas along with addition trial trenching in 1998. These revealed an area of possible ritualistic activity dating from the Late Neolithic through to the Bronze Age with a Late Iron Age phase identified by fragments of Belgic pottery. 16th to 17th century remains were revealed by a metal detector survey, potentially pointing to the presence of a market or fair during this period.
