Abstract
Between 27/03/2000 and 20/04/2000 Mark Hinman of the Cambridgeshire County Council Archaeological Field Unit undertook evaluation by means of trial trenching on land adjacent to Bob's Wood, Hinchingbrooke, prior to the sale of the land for housing development.
Settlement activity was identified spanning the Middle Iron Age to the 4th century AD. There appears to be a wholesale relocation of the settlement core southwards from the Late Iron Age into the Romano-British period. Given the apparently key strategic location of this hilltop the drift may reflect a conscious desire to be seen to be physically dominating the local landscape overlooking Ermine Street.
