Abstract
A watching brief on the Grade II listed Folly Bridge, Arch 4, was commissioned
by Oxfordshire County Council ahead of repairs. Three previously unknown
walls were found within the fill of the bridge, constructed on the bridge vaults.
No finds were recovered during the works, although the position of the walls
suggests that they were related to the horse-tram system in use between
1887-1914. The features may have been built in order to consolidate the
ground directly beneath the tracks. No features pre-dating the 19th-century
were found.
