Abstract
In August and September 1993 a watching brief was carried out by Oxford Archaeological Unit (OAU) on behalf of 2-Care in respect of an extension and renovation works for a residential home at The Knowl, Stert Street, Abingdon.
A small amount of river deposits were seen suggesting that the river had a wider course before being diverted into a culvert. Although undated floor layers seen in the N of the site were similar in sequence to medieval floor sequences seen elsewhere locally. The demolition debris is thought to relate to the buildings seen on the 1875 OS map.
