Abstract
On the 14th and 15th of May 2001 the Archaeological Field Unit of Cambridgeshire County Council conducted an archaeological evaluation on land at 105 Oxney Road, Peterborough in advance of the construction of three dwellings and associated ground works. The aim of the intervention was to record and assess the nature of any archaeological evidence encountered prior to the construction and hence to assess the potential of surviving remains. Given the presence of prehistoric artefacts, Roman settlement evidence and the Car Dyke encircling the development area particular attention was paid to the identification and interpretation of deposits and features in the context of what seems to have been a rich archaeological landscape near to the fen edge. During the archaeological investigation, probable landscaping and modern disturbance were observed, no positive evidence was recovered of early land use.
