Abstract
Oxford Archaeology North (OA North) was invited by Ian Brodie, of The Friends of the Lake District, to undertake an accurate survey of three bields located on the common land of Little Asby Scar and Sunbiggin Tarn, Eden District, Cumbria (NGR NY 68450 08700). This was undertaken in advance of the repair and consolidation of three bields (Site 30, 32 and 63) and was in accordance with the recommendations of
an earlier survey report on the Asby common (OA North 2004). This required that a mitigation survey be undertaken of all structures in advance of consolidation.
Each of the bields was subject to a fabric survey and was located with respect to local topographic detail and other known adjacent archaeological sites. The descriptive
record of the construction, condition, survival and phasing which was produced in the gazetteer of the previous archaeological assessment report has been enhanced.
