Abstract

Oxford Archaeology (OA) was commissioned by Mr Anthony Allen to undertake a watching brief
on the Scheduled Monument of Blewburton Hill, Blewbury near Didcot, Oxfordshire. The work
included the removal of an existing fence, within and surrounding the monument, the erection of
a new rabbit fence and the repair of ramparts where rabbit damage from burrowing was worst.
The watching brief provided an opportunity to view the deposits across the site. However the
depths of the test pits surrounding the new posts did not provide sufficient depth to see below
the upper level of the subsoil. The topsoil from one post location did produce a fragmented
piece of burnt clay that is likely to be Iron Age in date.
