Abstract
In August and September 2019 Oxford Archaeology was commissioned by
Pegasus Group on behalf of Kingacre Estates Ltd to carry out a trial trench
archaeological evaluation of the site of a proposed urban extension at Land
South of Wokingham. Previous archaeological work in the general area had
revealed low level and dispersed evidence of prehistoric, Roman and postmedieval
agricultural activity.
The evaluation confirmed the results of previous archaeological investigations
in the locality, revealing infilled field boundaries or an absence of
archaeological features across much of the site. There were two exceptions to
this trend. Trenches 33, 35 and 36 contained a number of ditches on different
alignments to the surrounding field systems but produced no finds and remain
undated. Trenches 94, 97, 98, 101 and 102 contained a dispersed mix of
ditches, pits and postholes indicating the presence of low-density settlement
activity
