Abstract
Oxford Archaeology were appointed by Vanbrugh Unit Trust to conduct an
archaeological trial-trench evaluation consisting of 14 trenches at Bladon
Chains Caravan Club Site, Blenheim, Oxfordshire. The archaeological works,
which were carried out between 27th September and 6th October (noncontinuous),
were undertaken in advance of the proposed redevelopment of
the caravan park as a holiday lodge park.
A small number of archaeological features, in the form of shallow ditches
and one possible pit or posthole, were recorded in Trenches 2, 11 and 12.
These produced no artefacts and are undated.
The other 11 trenches contained no archaeological features at all. Modern
disturbances included electrical cables feeding caravan plots in Trenches 1, 2,
4, 9, 10 and 14. Trenches 1, 5, and 6 contained modern land drains.
No artefacts were recovered and no deposits suitable for
palaeoenvironmental sampling were encountered.
