Abstract
The archaeological strip, map and record was a reliable mitigation exercise, the site was stripped of topsoil and subsoil under constant archaeological control, with natural
geology being exposed throughout the strip area. The stripped area was also allowed to weather, so if any archaeological features had been present, they would have been easily identified against the natural geology. No archaeological remains were encountered during the strip, map and record exercise. There was no evidence or finds recovered which may have related to the putative Roman road, however, this may be due to the strip area being approximately 40m from the assumed line of the Roman road.
