Abstract

Between January and July 1995 a number of campaigns of archaeological recording ans excavation took place in association with the development of ten dwellings, provision of associated services and regrading of a road at Jubilee Terrace, Ely (centred on TL5435 7981) by Hereward Housing Association Ltd. The work was carried out by the Archaeological Field Unit (AFU) of Cambridgeshire County Council.
The site was identified as being the location of a building, dating between c. AD 1200 and 1500, which was subsequently demolished in the late medieval period. Further analysis of this building and the artefacts associated with it will aid in the interpretation of it's function and the later disuse of the site. This will have wider implications on the study of medieval Ely, in particular the development of a commercial centre between Broad Street and the river Ouse.
