Abstract
In June 1998 Lancaster University Archaeological Unit (LUAU) carried out an archaeological
evaluation, two small mitigation excavations, and a watching brief in the grounds of Vale
Royal House, near Northwich, Cheshire, (SJ 6385 6985). The house lies on the site of a
Cistercian monastery and is a Grade II listed building. Part of the grounds immediately to the
north and east is designated a Scheduled Ancient Monument being the location of the Abbey
church and cloisters.
