Abstract
In late January 2022, Oxford Archaeology undertook a trial trench evaluation
at Eton College, Berkshire. The investigation was undertaken within an area of
proposed flood compensation. The compensation area is required as part of a
programme of works associated with the redevelopment of sports facilities at
the college.
The evaluation comprised the excavation of 11 trenches each measuring 30m
by 1.8m, and representing a 4% sample of the site. No archaeological features
were identified. A single sherd of post-medieval pottery was recovered from a
subsoil deposit.
