Abstract
The Lancaster University Archaeological Unit (LUAU) was commissioned by North West
Water Ltd to undertake a second phase of detail survey in advance of the construction of a
pipeline linking the proposed new service reservoir and the former Guide reservoirs. The
project design provided for a detailed archaeological survey of those elements of the study
corridor of greatest archaeological significance, as mitigation for their destruction by the
proposed pipeline. The sites comprised an area of mining remains (Site 12) and a former
quarry (Site 13).
