Abstract
In the summer of 1996 Lancaster University Archaeological Unit (LUAU) undertook a
programme of non-intensive survey at Lyme Park in Cheshire, at the request of the National
Trust. This survey, which comprised an identification survey of the Park, integrated with both
documentary and place-name studies, was followed later in 1996 by a second phase of work,
examining specific features of the Park landscape in more detail. Seven discrete but interlinked
elements of the Park landscape were examined and recorded during the project and
detailed gazetteers produced for the use of the National Trust. The results of those studies are
presented in this volume.
