Abstract
In January 2008, Oxford Archaeology carried out a field evaluation
adjacent to the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust reserve at Lady Fen, Welney,
Norfolk on behalf of the Environment Agency. Eighteen trenches were
excavated across the site.
A number of possible pits were recorded but no dating evidence was
recovered. In addition, several trenches contained the remains of
drainage ditches. These are likely to be the remains of ditches dug out in
the 17th century in order to drain the fens for agricultural use.
