Abstract
The earliest activity on the site would appear to relate to two ditches dating to the 13th and 14th centuries which may form part of the original castle defences. One of these was also indentified during the documentary research, undertaken prior to the fieldwork, where it was labelled "The Castle Retrenchment". The majority of the archaeology however would appear to date to post-medieval period. This consists mainly of structural evidence in the form of 18th-19th century stone and brick buildings, an associated well and flagstone surface.
