Abstract

The evaluation was undertaken by Lancaster Archaeology Unit on behalf of Oxford Archaeology, between the 11th and 15th December 2020.

Trenches 1 and 2 demonstrated undated archaeological features to the northern part of the site, protected by at least 0.8m of modern hardcore and accumulated silty sand of unknown date. Any groundworks in this area below 0.8m should be accompanied by appropriate archaeological recording.

Trenches 3, 4 and 5 represent a thorough evaluation of the footprint of the proposed petrol filling station and no archaeological remains were identified
