Abstract
Oxford Archaeology (OA) was commissioned by CgMs Consulting to undertake a
trench evaluation of the 8.2 hectare site of a proposed residential development to
the south of Bath Road, Leonard Stanley in Gloucestershire (NGR 380711, 203335).
No significant archaeological remains were identified in the 17 trenches excavated. The very few features and artefacts identified within the site are consistent with a long history of agricultural land-use throughout the medieval, post-medieval and modern periods. Any evidence for earlier activity may have been eroded by extensive ridge-and-furrow cultivation features, evidence for which is present throughout the site. The trenching largely confirms the results of a previous geophysical survey (Stratascan 2013), which also failed to identify any obviously significant
archaeological sites.
