Abstract

In July and September of 2011 Oxford Archaeology (OA) carried out a programme
of archaeological watching brief, building survey and excavation at the Turl Bar, to
the rear of the Mitre Inn on Turl Street, Oxford. Excavation work revealed the
undisturbed pre-town ground surface at a comparable level to that seen in previous
work in the area. It was overlain by an undated mortar floor surface which in turn
was cut by a series of inter-cutting Late Medieval/Post Medieval pits. The
foundations of two Post-Medieval walls were also recorded.
