Abstract
This site comprised the backyards of a group of tenements along the east side of Northbrook Street in
Newbury. Evaluations, small excavations and watching brief established that activity of medieval
date, probably commencing in the late 12th century, was present across the site, and continued at a
small scale until the late medieval period. The Tudor period witnessed the greatest density of activity,
but use of the backyards continued throughout the post-medieval period until the present day.
