Abstract
An archaeological assessment of the area was undertaken in February/March 1989 by the Oxford Archaeological Unit on behalf of Amey Roadstone Corporation to provide information for a proposed planning application for gravelextraction over an area of c. 85 ha. The subsoil varies with alluvium (immediately post-glacial and late Saxon/early Medieval), gravel islands and solifluction and hillwash deposits all found within the area (Fig 1).
