Abstract
Lancaster University Archaeological Unit was commissioned to undertake an
archaeological watching brief during the construction of an enclosure to an existing
swimming pool to the west of Storrs Hall, Arkholme, Lancashire (SD 5772 7138). The
work was undertaken in January 2001 in accordance with a project brief by the Lancashire
County Archaeological Service (LCAS). The proposed ground works extended close to the
historically important hall and the watching brief was intended to test for the possibility of
earlier structures on the site. The project was designed to record any archaeological
features encountered during the excavation of foundation trenches for the construction of
the new enclosure.
