River Ellen, Maryport, Cumbria: Archaeological Watching Brief

Oxford Archaeology North was commissioned by Stobbarts Limited to undertake an archaeological watching brief during ground works associated with the construction
of a cycle path (NGR: NY 0330 3622). The development site is located within an area of archaeological potential and accordingly the watching brief followed recommendations issued by Cumbria County Council Historic Environment Service(CCCHES).
Along the course of the cycle path only comparatively shallow stripping of the topsoil was undertaken and no features or artefacts of archaeological interest were identified.
