Archaeological Watching Brief at Titchwell Marsh RSPB Reserve, Norfolk

The works entailed the stripping of a large borrow pit area in the south of the reserve ahead of the subsequent removal of natural boulder clay to use in order to widen and raise the Parrinder and West Bank sea defences further north in the reserve. Finds included sixteen struck flints indicating activity from as early as the Mesolithic or Early Neolithic through to the later prehistoric periods. Further evidence for activity during the later prehistoric consisted of a single cremation and associated pit of Bronze Age date and a ditch and six heavily truncated pits dating to the Iron Age.
