Abstract
The potential for remains of archaeological interest within the planning permission boundary for Peel Place Quarry is indecated by extensive findspots of prehistoric flint in teh wider area. The medieval settlement of Halsenna lies to the west of the planning permission boundary and is associated with field systems that extend within this boundary. A fragment of medieval stone cross and a Roman coin have also been found in the near vicinity of the quarry. The potential for further, previously unidentified, remains in this area led to several phases of investigations, some of which pre-date the current planning permission boundary.
