Abstract
Oxford Archaeology carried out a programme of test pitting in the north-western half of the Scheduled Ancient Monument of Verulamium Roman Town in the south-west of St Albans. The programme was carried out on behalf of English Heritage and was intended to provide data on topsoil depths across the site in order to assess the affects of ongoing ploughing. Evidence for previously unknown Roman structures was revealed and results showed that ploughing was damaging both archaeological and earlier plough soil deposits.
