Abstract

In December 2000 an evaluation at Holywell Mead swimming pool complex at The Rye centre, High Wycombe showed surviving Roman walls and other deposits surviving beneath the recent made ground

Between February and September 2002, Oxford Archaeology (OA) carried
out an archaeological watching brief at The Rye Environment Centre,
High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire (NGR SU 8740 9238). The complex
overlies the site of Rye Roman villa and the groundwork revealed sections of
the villa walls and a possible make-up layer for the villa floor surface.
Roman levels were sealed by modern deposits associated with the swimming
pool complex built on the site in the 20th century.
