Abstract

From 25th October to 8th November 2010 Oxford Archaeology South (OAS)completed a programme of archaeological evaluation on land adjacent to Chieveley Quarry, Berkshire (NGR: SU 483 724). The work was commissioned by Andrew
Josephs Ltd on Behalf of Grundon Waste Management Ltd, in advance of a proposed extension to the existing quarry works. A total of 40 trenches measuring 50 m x 2 m and 1 trench measuring 30 m x 2 m were excavated accounting for c.
2% of the 40 ha site.
The evaluation revealed two Iron Age field boundary ditches, orientated approximately NE-SW, and five small undated pits. Post-medieval field boundaries
and undated tree holes/disturbance were also revealed. The results suggest that the site lies in an area of low archaeological potential.
