Abstract

Preliminary archaeological assessment of the proposed route for the A1(M) widening scheme between Alconbury and Fletton Parkway, Peterborough. This assessment was carried out using Cambridgeshire County Council's Sites and Monuments Record, aerial photographs and detailed field walking of the proposed route. The assessment identified Medieval ridge & furrow, post-Medeival gallows, prehistoric flints, Roman buildings, Roman pottery, the Roman Road Ermine Street, Medieval earthworks, ponds and moat, Medieval deserted villages, Romano-British settlement, Roman coffins, Roman coin and the Napoleonic POW camp at Norman Cross.
