Abstract

This archaeological desk based assessment has found that the footprints of both the proposed basement lowering and the proposed side extension to The Gatehouse have a high potential to contain possible remains of Late medieval and/or early Post-medieval buildings shown an the plan of c. 1603. The proposed tennis court, located outside the buildings shown on the c. 1603 plan will involve the removal of topsoil only and is unlikely to have any impact on any archaeology.

The area of proposed development has the potential to contain prehistoric archaeology associated with the discovery of a prehistoric ditch c.50m to the south-east during an archaeological evaluation in 1996.
