Abstract

During August and September 1997 the Archaeological Field Unit of Cambridgeshire County Council carried out an archaeological evaluation on the site of the proposed development of poultry houses at Lyndon Farm, Maxey. The work was commissioned by G.W. Padley Poultry Ltd. Six trenches revealed pits, ditches and gullies containing variable quantities of Romano-British pottery and bone. One trench appeared to contain a possible pre-historic post hole. The frequency of features and the nature of the ceramic and faunal assemblages imply domestic activity in the vicinity of the Roman road of King Street.
