Abstract

On 27th March 2004, the Archaeological Field Unit (AFU) of Cambridgeshire County Council conducted an archaeological evaluation on land at the rear of 1, Cheyney Street, in the centre of the village of Steeple Morden, Cambridgeshire. The investigation area comprised one trench, 15m in length, within the proposed development area of two residential dwellings. The trench revealed a ditch terminus, the edges of a large pond or quarry pit and a single posthole. One sherd of late medieval pottery was recovered from the ditch terminus; all features are thought to have been contemporary on the basis of the nature and characteristics of the deposits contained within them.
