Abstract
Between the 20th and 21st of September 2022 Oxford Archaeology East conducted an archaeological evaluation on land to the east of Guilfords, Harlow, Essex (centered on NGR TL 47682 12342) ahead of the construction of a flood alleviation basin and associated landscaping. The archaeological evaluation comprised five trenches (Trenches 1-5) along the spine of a 1.35ha field in which the works will take place. A single, undated ditch was identified beneath a modern layer of soil in Trench 4. The modern soil layer probably originated from the construction of Guilfords housing estate to the west of site. In addition, an alluvial deposit was recorded in Trench 3 which relates to Harlowbury Brook along the eastern boundary of site. No artefacts or ecofacts were recovered.
