Abstract
Wales (SJ 180 360 centred) was undertaken in October 2002. The work was undertaken by
Oxford Archaeology North (OA North) on behalf of the Royal Commission on the Ancient
and Historical Monuments of Wales (RCAHMW) as part of the Uplands Initiative. The
fieldwork consisted of an identification survey to identify, locate and describe
archaeological and historical features within the defined survey area.
The North Berwyn study area incorporates Historic Landscape of Wales 3 (Countryside
Council for Wales 2003). The general area comprises tracts of rolling moorland pasture
lying to the south east of the Dee valley, overlooking Llandrillo and having prospects to
the Snowdon massif beyond in the west. Unfortunately, the original study area was greatly
reduced by access limitations across the Plas Nantyr estate from 35km² to c9km², this was
also the area where most of the SMR/NMR records were also located.
