Abstract
The Oxford archaeological Unit (OAU) undertook a watching brief on behalf of The Vale of the White Horse District Council, during the excavation of a gas pipeline trench in the gateway of Abingdon Abbey in December 1994.
The work revealed stone cobbled layes and a wall which may be related to earlier road surfaces, pavements or footings for the archway. The wall may be part of a cottage demolished in 1962. No conclusive dating evidence was revealed.
