Abstract
On the 19th November and 10th December 2013, OA East carried out an archaeological watching brief at Mumby, Lincolnshire (TF 51969 74565). The monitoring was carried out during the replacement of the water main between Mumby and Chapel St Leonard's.
A large pit, two smaller pits and two boundary ditches were observed. An assemblage of briquetage was recovered from the large pit, within which a number of pedestals were identified. These indicate that marine salt production was undertaken within the vicinity of the study site, most likely during the Roman period. Furthermore, a large amount of medieval pottery was recovered from the topsoil. This is likely related to the moated manor located nearby.
