Abstract
During June 1998, the Lancaster University Archaeological Unit carried out a programme of
evaluation, mitigation excavation, masonry recording and watching brief in advance of a golf
club house development within the Scheduled Area of Vale Royal Abbey, Cheshire (SJ 6385
6985). The archaeological work was undertaken on behalf of DHC Ltd as a condition of
Scheduled Monument Consent and was undertaken in accordance with a brief prepared by Dr
Jennifer Lewis of Liverpool University.
