Abstract

Between March and June 2007 Oxford Archaeology (OA) carried out an archaeological watching brief at Abbey Mill Field, Bishop’s Waltham, which forms part of the Bishop’s Palace Scheduled Monument, Hampshire NGR SU 5517 1729. The work was commissioned by the Environment Agency (EA) to oversee a scheme of flood alleviation works. The watching brief revealed natural sand and gravel overlain by a series
of pond silt deposits, in which archaeological material was recovered. This was sealed by thick layers of dumped material deposited in the 1970s when the site was levelled.
